Honorary Chairman Year End Message

Dear Fellow Members,

On behalf of the Management Committee 2013-2014, I would like to extend season’s greetings. It is the time of the year to spend with loved ones before getting busy with new challenges in 2015.

The Chapter conducted its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 9 November, with over 30 members in attendance. In addition to the Honorary Chairman and Honorary Treasurer reports, elections for a new Management Committee 2015-2016 took place. I am pleased to see that there will be renewal of leadership as well as within the management committee. We can look forward to new ideas and energy from the incoming management committee.

I am also delighted to introduce Mr. James Toh, CPP as the Honorary Chairman-elect. He will start in the new role on 1st January 2015 for a term of 2 years. Please look forward for his address in January with the composition of new MC members.

2014 has been a busy year for the chapter. In summary, a total of 138 educational hours were created for members and the public. This comes from 4 review courses, 4 site visits, 4 seminars, and 1 conference.   Financially, the chapter has booked a surplus of S$18,159 for the past financial year. The year ends with two events: 1) A special Q4 networking dinner with ASIS International Chairman, Board member, volunteer leaders and staff present; 2) Crisis Management & BCM Masterclass that attracted 100 registrations.

Please join me in thanking the 2013-2014 Management Committee for the hard work in the past two years. You’d be pleased to know that many of the familiar committee members continue to serve in upcoming term.

Lastly, I would welcome the new members to the Chapter.

Regards,
Leonard Ong, CPP
Honorary Chairman

Honorary Chairman Message - Nov 2014

Dear Esteemed Members,

As the 2013-2014 Management Committee term draws to an end, I am pleased to share updates since my last message in August.

1. Security Industry Conference 2014
The conference took place on 27-29 August with over 400 registrations received. The expanded program to 3 days and meticulous selection of both international & local speakers had attracted great interest this year. The Chapter’s role in co-organising the conference has shown excellent results. The conference was supported by Workforce Development Authority of Singapore (WDA).

2. Site Visit to Sentosa Joint Command Centre
In 2014, the Chapter organized 4 site visits. Following the visit to SATS Catering Centre 1 in July, members visited the Sentosa Joint Command Centre. The site visit was over-subscribed, and attendees had the rare opportunity to learn about security management of Sentosa island.

3. Q3 Networking Dinner
Over 50 members and guests attended the dinner. Steve Surfaro, Chairman of the Physical Security Council, presented at the event and shared his insights around the future of surveillance. Lucky members walked away with vouchers and ASIS International's CD containing Standards and other publications.

4. Women in Security
The initiative is gaining momentum. With the self-defense workshop conducted successfully, more events are being planned specially for women in security. I am pleased to note that Ms. Yong Hwee-Fong has been featured in the latest ASIS Dynamics (Pg. 14) for her role in leading WiS in the Singapore Chapter.

5. PCB Award
I am pleased to announce that Mr. James Toh, CPP and myself have been recognized as Professional Certification Board (PCB) Regional Award Winners.  The PCB Award is given to individuals who have played a significant role in advocating ASIS International's certification and education programs.

6. Triple Certification
ASIS International recognizes individuals who have achieved all three certifications namely CPP, PCI, and PSP.  Please join me to congratulate Mr. Stefan Shih, CPP, PCI, PSP.  He is the first in Singapore who has attained all three certifications. Mr. Shih is serving as the Chapter’s Honorary Secretary in the current term.

7. Renewal
As the current Management Committee term ends soon, members will elect 12 Management Committee members for the 2015-2016 term. As in the previous years, I encourage and fully support renewal of ideas and leadership. If you have the passion to serve and are eligible to be nominated, I encourage you to step up.

8.  Upcoming events

CPR for Child and Infant Workshop

Every parent should know how and when to administer CPR. When performed correctly, CPR can save a child's life by restoring blood flow to the heart, brain, and other organs and restoring breathing until advanced life support can be given by health care providers. If CPR is needed, using the correct technique will give someone the best chance of survival.

CPR might be necessary in many different emergencies, including accidents, near-drowning, suffocation, poisoning, smoke inhalation, electrocution injuries, and suspected sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

ASIS International (Singapore Chapter) will be having a CPR for child and infant workshop and the details are as follows:
Date - 14 October 2014
Time - 7-10pm
Venue - Lion Building B, 12 Arumugam Road, #02-11, Singapore 409958 (Just right next to MacPherson MRT exit B)
Fee -
$10 for Singapore Chapter Paid Up Members / Spouses
$15 for ASIS International Members / Spouses
$20 for women in security who are not ASIS members

Please register using the form below.

CPR (or cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is a combination of chest compressions and rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth resuscitation). If someone isn't circulating blood or breathing adequately, CPR can restore circulation of oxygen-rich blood to the brain. Without oxygen, permanent brain damage or death can occur in less than 8 minutes.
