Title: Preventing impulsive and predatory acts of violence; The basics of understanding the violent mind
Speaker: Totti Karpela
Synopsis:
In Singapore where commerce, trade and fiercely competitive business practice from the heart and soul of economic life, organizations and their employees are frequently challenged by the ugly side of human behaviour. It can manifest in the form of workplace violence, sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, blackmail, criminal extortion and unsavory debt-collecting practices; spreading worry and fear throughout an organization; affecting employee morale and productivity. Human behaviour – and therefore manmade threats -can be analyzed and even predicted in the form of a person’s or group’s motivations, capabilities and opportunities to carry out their intentions and so effective strategies can be developed to manage and prevent these situations.

Totti will look at the typical forms of threatening behaviour and the mean in which they may be communicated. He will impart advice on how such threats should be analyzed and interpreted and outline planning strategies for organizations to prevent, manage and investigate these incidents; factors which are often overlooked by corporate HR and psychologists.
